INSTRUCTIONS

  • Note: To change colour, work to the last 2 loops on the hook and draw a new color through the last 2 loops, then proceed in a new color. With A, chain (ch) 183.
  • 1st row: [Right Side (RS)]. 1 double crochet (dc) in 5th ch from hook (counts as 1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc). *Ch 1. Skip next ch. 1 dc in next ch. Repeat (Rep) from * to end of the chain. 181 sts or 90 ch-1 spaces (sps). Turn.
  • **2nd row: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1). *1 dc in next DC. Ch 1. Rep from *, ending with 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Turn.
  • Rep last row until work from beginning (beg) measures 9″ [23 cm], ending on a Wrong Side (WS) row. Fasten off. With RS facing, join B with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first dc. Rep 2nd row for 9″ [23 cm], ending on a WS row. Fasten off.
  • With RS facing, join C with sl st to the first dc. Rep 2nd row for 9″ [23 cm], ending on a WS row. Fasten off.** With RS facing, join A with sl st to first dc. Rep from ** to ** once more.

Weaving:

  • Cut lengths of D approx 90″ [228.5 cm] long. Taking 2 strands together (tog), thread onto yarn needle and beg at lower edge, weave vertically under and over rows in ch-1 sps up to top edge, noting strands will alternate ‘under’ and ‘over’ rows to create woven appearance. Leave approx 10″ [25.5 cm] length of D before and after weaving for braided fringe.

Braided Fringe

Use 12 strands of yarn tog (from 6 ch-1 sps) approx 10″ [2.5 cm cm] long remaining (rem) on each side after weaving. Divide into 3 groups of 4 strands. Braid strands tog.
Wrap D 6 times around braid 1½” [4 cm] from end. Secure. Trim end of braids.
